APRIL / MAY / JUNE 2021 11 first take wac foundation Tom Wolfe joined the WAC in 1997. From the beginning, he found a sense of belonging and connection. When Tom heard about the WAC Foundation, making a donation and including the Foundation in his estate planning was an easy decision. "My life has been uniquely enriched by the WAC for almost 25 years," Tom says. "I realize the role that our gorgeous Clubhouse plays in this endeavor, and how important the building is to the city of Seattle." In fact, the WAC Clubhouse is one of the few original skyscrapers still standing from the city's early days. at history and the Clubhouse's art deco architecture are two of the reasons the Clubhouse joined the National Regis- ter of Historic Places. at designation helped drive the formation of the WAC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) created to pre- serve and enhance the WAC Clubhouse. Building the future Support Clubhouse history with your donation to the WAC Foundation "My wife and I love how the WAC Foundation is looking to preserve the Clubhouse and the generational legacy it represents," says David Garrett, another Foundation donor. "We are honored to be a part of the WAC story." One project being considered for Foundation funding is the extension of the historic Voogd Library. Creating connection between the library and the lobby by way of the current Club Shop—including reintroducing historic exterior windows—is expected to bring a premier lobby-level space into a new era while illuminating the Club's past. "e idea is to preserve the historic library and also extend those elements into the Club Shop and lobby," says Chuck Nelson, WAC President & CEO and WAC Foundation Vice President. e final product would be a new space for members to relax, work remotely, and get some great beverage service at the same time. "We expect it would quickly become one of members' favor- ite places," Chuck says. One of the most popular ways to donate to the WAC Foundation has been at the Builder level, reserved for donors who give or pledge $1,000 or more by July 31 of this year. Additional donor tiers have also been established, and planning for a recognition wall on the lobby level is underway. "I can't think of a better way to help support the future of the WAC and our historic building," Tom says. "It's truly a testament to Seattle history." Gis to the WAC Foundation are tax-deductible, and the Foundation accepts donations of all types and sizes, including cash, one-time and recurring gis, and appreciated stock. e Foun- dation also qualifies for most employers' gi-matching programs.
