Some easy ways to relieve arthritis pain include: • Apply hot packs to the affected areas or take a warm shower. • Execute gentle range-of-motion exercises before getting out of bed to warm up your joints. • Stay active throughout the day as much as possible within your pain limits. • Walk. It's one of the best ways to keep hip and knee cartilage healthy. • Aqua aerobics, including the kind offered in the WAC pool (see page 21). In addition to analyzing and treating arthritis and other pain, the physical therapists at the WAC work closely with the Club's personal training team to take your care to the next level. By teaming together, we deliver clients holistic and sustainable pain-management solutions and provide a better quality of life and a path toward achieving your optimal health. Instructor Insights Lola Aliu Originally from Texas, Lola Aliu moved to Seattle as a child. A runner at heart, Lola traded her sneakers for a yoga mat as a junior at the University of Washington. She continued to practice yoga, specifically Ashtanga and Rocket—a fast-paced version of Ashtanga—and earned her teacher's certification in 2017. "I pursued an opportunity at the WAC soon aer," Lola says. Most recently, Lola taught Vinyasa Power Yoga on Tuesdays and ursdays. "I make my classes special and unique through hands-on assists that deepen the sensations of each posture," she says. "I teach everyone, whether flexible or inflexible." When she is not at the WAC, Lola works in tech, serves as a research assistant at UW, and makes fitness part of her daily routine through yoga and the occasional hike.
