Resolution success! We asked WAC members to share some of their 2018 changes and how they got them to stick. Here's what they told us. Vanessa Smith I lived in the moment as much as possible. When I found myself enjoying an activity, conversation or experience, I took a deep breath, put technology away, and fully lived in the moment. Grace Stevens I wanted to be more active since I have a desk job, so I gave myself a goal to take over 100,000 steps a week. I get reminders to move on my Fitbit. I also participate in a steps competi- tion with family and friends. living fit training goals / resolution tips control, including who else shows up on race day. Outcome goals usually involve a desired finishing place. • Performance goals: ese focus on your personal perfor- mance and involve very specific measurements, oen a time goal for a certain distance or type of event. Performance goals usually involve comparing yourself to your own pre- vious results. • Process goals: ese focus on the act of doing rather than on competition with yourself or others. For example, a process goal could be to finish a race with a smile or to remain calm and focused at the starting line. Process goals can also be longer-term. For example, your process goals might be to work out five times a week and stick to a specific training diet. Aer you set your goals, you can start to break down the path to achieving those goals and train every day with integrity. is is true for athletes in all sports—triathlon included—and of all experience levels, from pros to beginners. For example, if your goal is to run a 10k in less than an hour and you currently run a 10k in an hour and 10 minutes, then you are going to have to hit 1:09 and 1:07 and 1:05, etc. Each of those marks can be goals in themselves. Break down your goals and go aer each incremental step as if your life depended on it. As you achieve each one, the feeling of success will help propel you to the next. When your goal is the next incremental step and you can hold yourself to doing what you say you are going to do, that is training with integrity. For anyone thinking about taking on their first triathlon this year, I'd like to offer particular encouragement. is sport can change your life. Let the WAC Tri/Cycle team be your catalyst. Our calendar of group training and built-in support system can help you set and reach your own goals. Alex Korbonits I created a daily writing habit, gradually upping my words per day. I doubled down by taking a couple of writing courses at Hugo House. In November, I completed Nation- al Novel Writing Month, writing a 50,000-word manuscript in 30 days. Margaret ompson I retired! at was not hard. I have been able to experiment with more classes at the WAC during the day, which is great! When I'm not exercising at the WAC, I try to incorporate exercise into my travels with my husband.
