14 WAC Magazine | wac.net Aer 43 years at the WAC, longtime Controller Sandy Cramer retired this past December. Sandy started in the Club's Accounting department as a junior clerk in 1975. Her mom and two of her four sisters were also employed by the Club at the time, and the WAC quickly became a second home. Seeing Sandy's enthusiasm and promise, former Chief Financial Officer Marty Boschee and former CEO Frank Voogd encouraged Sandy to pursue a bookkeeping certificate at North Seattle College. e WAC agreed to pay her tuition as long as she made B marks or better. She did! "e people of the WAC have been my favorite part of my time at the Club," Sandy said a couple of weeks before her final day. "e relationships have been great." Aer her certificate program, Sandy continued to work her way up the WAC ranks while simultaneously earning a bachelor's degree, also funded by the Club. "Sandy has always taken her re- sponsibilities very seriously and never wavered from doing what is right with the best interests of the Club and our membership at heart," says Chief Finan- cial Officer Paul Lowber. "She gave the WAC 43 years of stellar service." Despite a long and happy career, San- dy said she was excited to end her daily commute from Snohomish County. "I've always felt appreciated and valued by the WAC," she said. "at's why I stayed for so long." Sandy and husband Jim plan to enjoy their shared retirement with a trip to Banff, Canada, and beyond. President & CEO Chuck Nelson will serve as 2019 Chair of the Seattle Sports Commission. e commission focus- es on strengthening the Seattle sports culture and building a world-class sports community here. Members of the com- mission's executive committee serve in a volunteer capacity. Chuck helped start and was the first executive director of the Boeing Classic PGA Champions Tour Event prior to beginning his position at the WAC. He is also a former sports radio broadcaster and University of Washington placekick- er. Chuck served as sports commission vice chair in 2018 and has sat on the commission since 2009.
