6 WAC Magazine | wac.net from the Chairman and President & CEO Twenty great years and counting It's my honor to serve as the 2018–2019 Chairman of the Board of Governors. In a club rich with history, the honor is even greater knowing that I will be among the youngest chairmen in the Club's 88-year history. My commitment to the member- ship and staff during my term is to honor the legacy of the Club while keeping an eye toward the strategic vision for the future. President & CEO Chuck Nelson and his executive team do a wonderful job, as does the rest of the WAC staff. I joined the Club in 1998 and spent the first couple of years splitting time between playing handball and basketball and enjoying Hagerty's and Torchy's. Being that I worked a couple of blocks away, I was at the Club almost daily. I knew early on that the WAC would be an important part of my life, and I decided to look for ways to give back. I explored the opportunity to join a Program Board committee, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life. For me, walking through the front doors of the Clubhouse is like entering a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of downtown—whether it's to get in a workout, meet a client, enjoy great food, or get a little work done. Since starting my member-leadership journey, I have received much more than I ever could have envisioned. e Club has evolved in that time, as well. During my year as Chairman, I will be especially focused on member engagement and membership growth. My goal is to encourage each of you to use the WAC to its fullest. Moreover, introduce a friend or colleague to the Club through a Club Programs event or by hanging out in one of our three restaurants. Aer all, each of us was introduced to the WAC by someone else!
