30 WAC Magazine | wac.net Ironically and lyrically enough, it is always an annual highlight for me to look back on the Washington Athletic Club's, well … annual highlights. As we continue this tradition of dedicating some space in our beautiful mag- azine to remembering the happenings of the prior year, our team has the challenge of winnowing 365 days of events, excite- ment and memories into just a few that will fit in the allotted number of pages. In the working world, it is common for many of us to focus on what is on our desks, on our calendars, or right in front of us—always think- ing of the right now and the next step. is ret- rospective gives us at the WAC an opportunity to slow down, take a step back, and look with a wide-angle lens at our favorite accomplishments and experiences. In reality, however, our prog- ress cannot be described in just a few words. More important, the progress never stops! Our history of excellence and our accolades as one of America's top city athletic clubs drive us to grow our commitment to improving what is already the region's premier fitness, social and professional private club. e push is always there to make the WAC even better. Our wonderful challenge is to stay current, to modernize, and to repurpose the historic WAC Clubhouse and facilities to meet new and always-changing needs. We do this by adding programs and amenities that serve a diverse and changing membership and by respectfully adapting revered traditions. In everything, our goal remains to meet the WAC's mission: To enrich the quality of life of our members. is past year brought some significant milestones. While taking longer than anticipat- ed, the now-completed (hallelujah!) Elevator Modernization Project replaced and improved the infrastructure—parts of which were original machinery from 1929—that carry us around the Clubhouse. Our slate of collegiate athletic events—in- cluding e Main Event boxing invitational as well as the Morris Trophy and collegiate rugby awards ceremonies—are growing and thriving. We offer more than 100 fitness classes weekly. And this past year, we served approximately 250,000 meals in our three restaurants and during almost 2,500 catered events. Citywide, no organization secured more Hamilton tickets than we did, showing once again that we are the club to belong to when it comes to gaining access to the hottest seats in town. We also partner with and support wonderful organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County, the Seattle Storm, and Seattle Reign FC. And we proudly played a significant role in the very special 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. e WAC is all about providing an environ- ment where fantastic experiences and lives are made—and fiscal 2017–2018 was no exception! Driven to get even better—year after year Executive Report 2017–2018 Introduction by Chuck Nelson, President & CEO Our wonderful challenge is to stay current, to modernize, and to repurpose the historic WAC Clubhouse and facilities.
