Located in the heart of the capital, just three blocks from the White House, e University Club has a membership that reflects its ZIP code. In addition to many government officials, members also have included heads of state, ambassadors, judges, and notable business and civic leaders. In fact, e University Club's first president was William Howard Ta, who would go on to become the president of the United States just five years later. e current Georgian-style clubhouse was designed during the Roaring Twen- ties for the Racquet Club of Washington. When the Great Depression hit, the two organizations merged. e seven-story, recently renovated structure offers an elegant dining room, named in honor of Ta, as well as a lively grill, cozy cocktail lounge, and intimate pub.
