28 WAC Magazine | wac.net club life TEAMWORKS Teamworks JANUARY Mary Ellen Jilek: Club Programs Event Manager A team member since 2008, Mary Ellen has developed many events for the WAC's 20s/30s and Family Activities committees. Over the past few years, she also has helped build and expand the Club's social media presence. "Mary Ellen hit the ground running," former Vice President Club Programs Melissa Borders says. "Almost 10 years later, her energy and passion for events is still as strong as ever." Mary Ellen is also responsible for managing ticket purchases to shows at the Paramount Theatre and sporting events at the University of Washington. She says she enjoys the versatile nature of her work and planning unique events. "No two days are ever alike," she says. "The WAC keeps me on my toes." MARCH Alfonso Torres: Lead Guest Services Associate Alfonso started at the WAC in 2014 as a bell attendant, quickly advancing to guest services associate at the front desk. A fast learner and natural leader, Alfonso was later promoted to lead guest services associate. "Alfonso is calm and cheer- ful," says General Manager, Inn at the WAC Kamil Turczanski. "He has great listen- ing skills and is always helpful in times of need." Alfonso's colleagues at the inn echo that sentiment, describing him as professional, dedicated and positive. "I appreciate my team and the rest of the WAC for helping me achieve this honor," Alfonso says. "I love working here." APRIL Bill Rawe: Operating Engineer Longtime WAC team member Bill Rawe began his Club career in 1957 at the age of 20. Bill is highly respected by his engineering co-workers. "He is the guy at night who stays on top of what is going on in the building," says Security Manager and Human Resources Generalist Laurie Sorensen. "He is considerate, methodical and complete in everything he does." Bill's favorite part of his job is helping integrate the latest technology into our historical building. "I love everything about the WAC," he says. "My job is challenging but interesting."
