Our neighbor to the north, British Columbia, Canada, offers gorgeous sights, abundant culture, and incredible experiences as well as Canada's third-most populous city, Vancouver, whose glass towers rise from the sea with mountains at their back. Downtown Vancouver is Canada's most densely populated neighborhood. Start your visit at Stanley Park, a 1,000- acre (make that 405-hectare) park that covers the northern half of the downtown peninsula. e park is perfect for biking and walking and boasts beautiful forests, aboriginal village sites, and a beach, not to mention the enormous Second Beach Pool, which is open in summer. Aer working up an appetite, grab lunch on Granville Island, where you can enjoy eats from a public market with up-close marina views. Granville Island is great for shopping, as is downtown's Robson Street. Other popular sights include the Museum of Anthropolo- gy, the Richmond Night Market, Lynn Canyon Park, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, and the Gastown neighborhood, to name only a few. Plus, a short drive will quickly bring you into the massive Coast Range of peaks and crags that make British Columbia an outdoor lover's dream. Looking beyond the Canadian mainland, British Columbia's capital city, Victoria, sits on the southern end of Vancouver Island. e Garden City lives up to its name, especially for any- one visiting world-renowned Butchart Gardens. Aer you've stopped to smell the roses, the Royal BC Museum, Craig- darroch Castle, and Beacon Hill Park are must-see destinations.
