ASK MEMBER SERVICES
By Michelle Pinson, VP Membership & Marketing
One of the extraordinary things about
private club membership is the role
members play in nurturing, support-
ing and sustaining the organization for
present and future generations. How to
become involved in WAC member lead-
ership is a question we oen hear. In this
volume of Ask Member Services, we discuss two of the most
frequently asked questions at our service desks.
Q. How many member leadership
committees does the WAC have?
A. We have six core committees: House,
Finance, Food & Beverage, Human Resources
& Benefits, Athletics, and Membership & Marketing—as well as
the Program Board, which presides over another five event plan-
ning sub-committees. Member leaders who build a reputation of
thoughtful and consistent service may be elected to the Board of
Governors.
Q. I would love to serve. Where do I begin?
A. First and foremost, be an engaged and active WAC member
in good standing. The Club Programs event planning committees
are a fantastic first step on the member leadership path (see
page 31). Receiving a recommendation from a current member
leader is also a good idea. Make your interest in member leader-
ship known by reaching out to a current committee member. Let
them know why you are interested and how you contribute to the
WAC's mission. For many members, joining the ranks of member
leadership ends up being one of the most rewarding aspects of
their WAC membership.
