Instructor Insights Paul Flanagan | Yoga & Barre Everett native Paul Flanagan always knew he was destined to perform. Aer graduating from Cascade High School, he immediately moved across the country to pursue his theatrical passion as a student at e American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. He remained in the Big Apple for eight years, dancing and acting in theaters throughout the city. Unfortunately, Paul's rising star came to a screeching halt when he was hit by a taxi and broke his ankle, prompting his move back to Washington state for surgery and recovery. Upon getting the go-ahead from his doctor, Paul took up yoga and quickly thereaer began teacher training. "I thought I was done dancing," Paul says. "Yoga changed my life journey—without it I wouldn't be dancing today." Aer achieving a full recovery, Paul opened A Sensible eatre Co., a queer-centered theater company where he hosts a monthly cabaret series, among other shows. FRIDAY 6–8 pm Ashtanga Basics An introduction open to all levels. The building blocks of Ashtanga will be explored through the five ele- ments of practice: breath, bandhas, drishti, asana and vinyasa. SATURDAY 9–11 am Fully led primary series A class designed for those familiar with the first series of Ashtanga yoga but open to all levels of profi- ciency. Class will flow from opening sun salutations to closing savasana. 1–3:30 pm Flying, floating and handstanding Swenson will break the Vinyasa down into its components and explore the elements of handstands and arm balances. Open to all levels, including beginners. 4–5:30 pm Breath, bandhas and pranayama This class will focus on the mantra of ujjayi within asana practice as well as during pranayama. In addition to breath work, the class will explore the invisible world of bandhas. SUNDAY 9–11 am Nadi Shodhana: A guided tour Students should have a regular practice of the first series in order to attend this class. Includes an introductory discussion of the dynamics inherent to the second series. 1–3:30 pm Inversions, backbends and sitting with your breath Turn your world upside down in order to explore the dynamics of inverting the body through building a solid foundation. 4–5:30 pm Eight limbs and daily life Explore the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga and their applications to our daily lives.
