MARCH / APRIL 2018 7 Change is in the air It is very visible, all around us. New buildings, new people, and new opportunities and challenges. e city of Seattle and the Puget Sound region are looking and behaving differently. Once-famil- iar downtown streets and neighborhoods have prominent new structures; formerly quick-moving thoroughfares now look more like crawling caterpillars of cars and densely populated buses; and new streetscapes are packed with an interesting mix of construction and tech workers. Our population has changed and continues to do so. And quickly! In any given week you might still run into old classmates. But you're more likely to bump shoulders with newcomers from around the country and world. Most of this growth is good. Certainly for the Washington Athletic Club, being in the heart of a vibrant, growing, dynamic city is a positive. When the WAC opened in 1930 it was the third-tallest building in Seattle. As the city has ebbed and flowed over the years, the WAC has been no stranger to change and has thrived throughout. e commitment is strong to be great stewards of the Club's deep culture and values and to be equally purposeful and entrepreneurial about meeting the needs of Seattle today and tomorrow. As always, our members are among the leaders driving the city and the region forward. For the WAC, standing at the center of downtown Seattle is not only a geographic truth but a metaphoric one that speaks to the contributions the club and its members make to this great city.
