Basketball bragging rights Instructor Insights Chris LeVaughn | Dance Cardio Chris LeVaughn grew up in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood and attended Cor- nish College of the Arts, where he studied musical theater. When he was offered the opportunity to train as a dance cardio instructor, he turned his love for the perform- ing arts into a passion for fitness. "I already loved to dance," he says. "Once I found out that I could teach people and stay fit at the same time, that passion only grew." Chris joined the WAC team in 2015, introducing his love for music and exercise to members. "My students are my biggest inspiration," Chris says. "People tell me how much my classes and energy have changed their lives. at's the most reward- ing thing." When Chris isn't at the Club he enjoys singing, spending time with his extended family, and working out. —Catch a Dance Cardio class with Chris on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm in Studio C on the 4th Floor. D A V I D R Y D E R Fight the blues with vitamin D e winter solstice may be behind us, but two of our darkest months are hap- pening right now. In fact, Seattle won't have 12 hours of daylight until mid- March—and that's not even counting cloud cover! To help get through the dark days ahead, consider a vitamin D supplement along with fish oil. As scientists continue to discover more about brain chemistry, they are finding that vitamin D and specific omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil control the synthesis and actions of serotonin in the brain. Why's that important? Because the neurotransmitter serotonin regu- lates a wide variety of brain function, including decision-making, social and impulsive behavior, and mood. Stop by the Wellness Center on the 4th Floor for more information.
