JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2020 37 e Tattersalls Club, located just off Hyde Park in Sydney, Australia, has tagged itself as a "club of consequence." WAC members trekking Down Under will likely agree—or at least greatly enjoy their visit to this 160-year-old estab- lishment on the edge of the continent's oldest park. Tattersalls was founded in 1858 on many of the same principles as the Washington Athletic Club and focuses on connecting members through com- munity, sport, and personal well-being. e club houses a 25-meter indoor pool, a well-stocked gym, and a championship squash court. It's also home to the Tat- tersalls Boardriders, a surfing club that meets regularly at local beaches. e club overlooks the gorgeous grounds of Hyde Park, a must-see for anyone making their first trip to the Harbour City. e club is also just a 20-minute stroll from the Sydney Opera House. Despite Australia's reputation for scorching temperatures, Sydney itself averages between 60 and 80 degrees year-round, making it a perfect getaway anytime—and particularly pleasant during Seattle's winter. As an added bonus, tennis fans can extend their Australian holiday with a trip to Melbourne for the Australian Open, this year set for January 20–Febru- ary 2. What's not to love?!
