20 WAC Magazine | wac.net taste cocktail corner / wine tasting Uncork the holidays BLOOD ORANGE METROPOLITAN By Peter Christian, Vice President Food & Beverage This drink is a variation of the popular Cosmopolitan marti- ni. The major difference between the two drinks is the base spirit. The classic version of the Cosmopolitan uses citron vodka. That drink's origin in the 1990s is usually credited to New York City bartender Chuck Coggins. Compared to the Cosmo, the WAC's Blood Orange Metropolitan uses blood-orange–infused vodka from 3 Howls Distillery right in Seattle's Sodo neighborhood. We combine that with Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur and finish with fresh-squeezed orange juice. The resulting cocktail is a refreshing twist on the classic Cosmo with a Northwest vibe all its own. Try one during your next visit to Torchy's or Hagerty's. Cheers! Cocktail Corner Blood Orange Metropolitan • 2 oz. 3 Howls Distillery Blood Orange Vodka • 1 oz. Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur • 2 oz. fresh-squeezed orange juice Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
