14 WAC Magazine | wac.net WAC member Dr. Barry M. Wise recently received the Herman Wold medal in gold at the 16th Scandina- vian Symposium on Chemometrics for his work in the field. Barry has worked in chemometrics for over three decades and is the first Ameri- can and the first non-academic to ever receive the award. He is president and co-founder of Eigenvector Research Inc., headquartered in Manson, Washington. e Wold medal is the highest honor bestowed on essential chemical data scientists and is awarded by the Swedish Chemical Society. Barry earned a doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Washington. first take wac historian / gold science medal WAC member Laura Inveen was the third longest-serving Superior Court judge in Washington state when she re- tired this past August following a 27-year career on the King County bench. Inveen was appointed to the King County Superior Court in 1992 by Gov. Booth Gardner. She joined the WAC that same year. During her nearly three decades as judge, Inveen never faced op- position, winning automatic re-election every four years. She received the Outstanding Judge Award by the Washington State Bar Association, was presiding judge of King County Superior Court from 2017–2018, and is a past president of the Washington State Superior Court Judges' Association. Following her retirement, Inveen spent two weeks traveling on the East Coast. She also started a part-time position for Hilyer Dispute Resolution, a private arbitration and mediation firm. Former WAC Historian Dee Sanwick passed away at the age of 96 this past September. Dee was a longtime WAC member, joining the Club in 1956. One of the highlights of her membership was directing, produc- ing and acting in plays with the old WAC drama group. She also wrote a history column, titled Memories, for WAC Magazine. Dee was born in El Paso, Texas, and lived in South America, San Francisco, and Holly- wood before settling in Seattle. She died on September 26, 2019.
