MASON as one of this year's recipients of its Executive Excellence Awards. Honoring inspirational, consistent and ethical behavior, the awards recognize local business executives for exceptional leadership. A WAC member since 2010, Mark was appointed CEO of HomeStreet Bank in 2009. Since then, he has turned around the once-troubled institution by re-evaluating and diversifying the bank's focus. "As we grow, we are providing more products, services and support to many more communities," Mason says. With Mark at the helm, HomeStreet has not only expanded but also has seen substantial profitability increases. WAC member MALORIE CATCHPOLE was recently named one of 2016's Women of the Year by the Center for Women & Democracy. Malorie and Jennifer Muhm (pictured right to left) co-founded the children's clothing line buddingSTEM in 2014 after struggling to find clothing for their daughters that celebrated science, technology, engineering, and math. Carrying items that feature beetles, trains, frogs, chess pieces, rocket ships, and more, buddingSTEM strives to make science more approachable to girls. "In 2016, being a girl means loving all kinds of things— robots, rockets and princesses," Malorie says. The company received GeekWire's 2015 Geek of the Year Award. Malorie is an attorney and mother of two. HOMETOWN BANKER A TOP EXECUTIVE A former Los Angeles dentist and a WAC member since 2000, DR. ROBERT "BOB" WALLACE recently endowed a permanent clarinetist chair at the Seattle Symphony. The gift will perpetually fund the annual salary of a symphony clarinetist. Bob's gift was celebrated during a January event on stage at Benaroya Hall. Fellow WAC member Ned Laird, the Benaroya Hall board president and a symphony board member, introduced Bob to the intimate gathering, which included a duet featuring Bob on piano and the endowment's first recipient, clarinetist Laura DeLuca. "The endowment dedication was a wonderful moment in the life of our institution," Seattle Symphony President & CEO Simon Woods said. "We were so pleased to celebrate Dr. Wallace for his philanthropy as well as recognize Laura DeLuca's distinguished career.
