THE CRYSTAL BALLROOM
This photo of the old Birch Room, now the Crystal
Ballroom, was taken in December 1930 during the
WAC's grand opening celebrations. At the time, the
WAC Clubhouse was the third-tallest building in
Seattle, behind only Smith Tower and the Northern
Life Tower. Opening celebrations ran for three nights
and included this black-tie member-only dinner. R.C.
"Torchy" Torrance, an original member of the Board of
Governors, is seated directly above the number 7.
