T he Washington Athletic Club is deservedly regarded as one of America's best private city athletic clubs. Now in its 85th year, the WAC's commitment to excellence and member experience has never been stronger. Since 1930, the historic landmark Clubhouse at Sixth and Union has represented a quest for a quality of life; fun times; and a wonderful intersection of social, fitness and business activities. While the exterior of the building is historic, what is inside is constantly evolving. We strive constantly to provide what the membership and the ever-changing Seattle community want—for today and tomorrow. It's important to be great stewards of the past and present and also to be entrepreneurial and creative about the WAC's future. What remains constant is the verve and vitality of the WAC's member community, and the promise of the Club to deliver a great day, every day and every time a member or guest comes through the front door. Wonderful things have happened at the WAC in the past 12 months. In the following timeline, we recount some of those improvements and additions to facilities, amenities and programs as well as some of the year's other highlights. Some of the changes are easily seen, such as the significant work completed in the 6th Floor Men's and 7th Floor Women's locker rooms or the addition of a second sellout night of The Main Event, our annual collegiate boxing invitational. Other changes take place more quietly or behind the scenes. (Don't you just love the way the replacement of the tile floor in the dishwashing area of the 2nd Floor kitchen turned out?) Whether we see them daily or not, every upgrade around the Clubhouse is critical. Although enhanced high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the building and new treadmills in the fitness areas grab our attention, improvements in our heating and air conditioning system are just as important—especially this summer! As you enjoy remembering some of the Club's accomplishments of the 2014–2015 fiscal year, it's a great time to share your own experiences. Please take a few minutes to complete a WAC Listens survey at waclistens.com. Looking through some recent surveys, it's easy to see that our new Family Fun Night, Grab & Go dining options, and change of official coffee partner (good morning, Starbucks!) have all been well-received. It is an exciting time to be at the WAC—more and diverse fitness classes, constantly changing and evolving menu items across our restaurants, and traditional and creative Club Programs offerings all deliver enhanced member experiences. Physical improvements to the facility will also continue as capital budgets allow with an emphasis on comfortable spaces for members to spend their leisure and work time. It's all about connecting, member to member, with old friends and making new ones while also connecting with the Club. Great things are happening at the WAC! cnelson@wac.net Here's to a great year … and many more!
