JANUARY 2015 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | 29 KNOCKOUT NIGHT back boxing's good old days Saturday, January 24 pears straight out of 1920. Picture Jack Dempsey frozen in a gritty black-and-white photo surrounded by admiring fans and you start to get a feel for The Main Event. If you're lucky enough to have tickets—this year's Main Event is set for January 23–24—you'll quickly get to know some of the fighters from the University of Washington, fan favorites who play an integral role in the action. As mem- bers of a non-scholarship student-run team, Husky boxers embody the early days of college athletics. Along with the event itself, the fighters are a reminder of the early days of the WAC and embody the Club's founding words, engraved in stone near the main lobby doors: This building is dedicated to the advancement of the amateur athletic and social activities of Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. DING, ROUND 1! Main Event Photography: LEO SANTIAGO; UW Boxing Team: BARBARA KINNEY
