Letter from the President & CEO Chuck Nelson, President & Chief Executive Officer / cnelson@wac.net W hat a wonderful time of year in the Northwest! ere is nothing like the anticipation—and then the reality—of summer in the Seattle area. is seasonal transition is a time of great optimism as we look forward to the days to come. Neighbors emerge from their homes to chat in front yards, and backyard grills come out from their winter cocoons. Your Club, however, doesn't need to transition quite as dramatically. At the WAC, there is always that great sense of community, of sharing common interests with interesting people. And our grills are always prepped. In fact, June is Seafood Month (see page 12), a perfect time to leave the cooking to Executive Chef Eric Floyd and our great kitchen team. Stop by Torchy's and Hagerty's and enjoy. e pool and gym also await, and we're putting together a strong lineup of youth and family programs—including weeklong day camps for kids—that promise lots of summertime fun (see page 6 for camp details). e WAC also continues its commitment and responsibility to the greater community. We are proud of our involvement with Seafair, and we will once again be the official athletic club of the Seafair Triathlon. With the return of the Blue Angels to Seafair, the Washington Athletic Club is honored to remain the Seattle home of this esteemed and prestigious group. Come into the Clubhouse during Seafair week and feel the energy and excitement as the world's best pilots spread their wings at the WAC. e business side of the Club is always looking forward. As we wrap up strategic planning, the annual operating plan and budget, and our capital expenditure plan for the new fiscal year beginning August 1, management and member leaders strive to find the sweet spot between stewardship of WAC resources and the responsible, entrepre- neurial, and necessary evolution of this wonderful place. Everyone involved is excited about continuing to take the WAC forward. Already one of America's best private clubs and a Seattle community icon, the WAC is in a great position to build on our strong platform and our mission "to enrich the quality of life of our members." As we close out the WAC year, I would like to recognize and applaud our outgoing Chairwoman of the Board of Governors, Marilyn Boss. Marilyn has a palpable and vibrant passion for the Washington Athletic Club, and it shows not only in her leadership role in WAC governance but also in her ubiquitous usage of virtually all WAC facilities. Torchy's, Hagerty's, Coed Fitness, Women's Fitness, 8th Floor Group Training, Club events—all could be described as Marilyn's favorite place in the Club. ank you for your leadership, your vision, and your commitment to making the WAC even better. Another strong year
