JUNE / JULY 2014 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | 21 H appy 10th birthday, Boeing Classic! e Pacific Northwest's top golf tournament marks its first decade this August, and the WAC will be there to help celebrate. e tournament continues to unite professional golfers with their fans on arguably our area's most spectacular course, TPC Snoqualmie Ridge. As a Champions Tour event, the Boeing Classic features professional players ages 50 and up. WAC members are once again invited to volunteer during tournament week, August 18–24. "Volunteering is a great way to experience the excitement of the week and to get close to the action," WAC Senior Vice President Athletics, Special Projects & Community Partners Wayne Milner says. Wayne sits on the tournament committee and expects this year's event to go down to the final holes. "It seems like we get great finishes every year," he says. e three-day Champions Tour tournament highlights the week and takes place Friday through Sunday, August 22–24. More than 80,000 fans attend events throughout the week, with the final round on Sunday the main draw. A WAC Community Partner, the Boeing Classic raises money for the Benaroya Research Institute, the Heart Institute at Virginia Mason Medical Center, e First Tee of Greater Seattle, and A Better Seattle. Almost $5 million has been raised since its inception. Washington native Fred Couples, always a fan favorite, is expected to return to this year's tournament. Other notable players include Rocco Mediate, Bernhard Langer, and Mark O'Meara. WAC members who want to attend as general spectators receive free entry with their Club membership card.
