18 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | JUNE / JULY 2014 Connect, collaborate, celebrate Join a WAC event-planning committee N ow is the time to get involved with what's happening at the WAC. Every summer, Club Programs and the Program Board put together the Club's event-planning committees. ese teams of member volunteers help create the calendar of Club events. e committees also provide members with an excellent opportunity to become more intimately involved with the Club and its future. WAC committee volunteers are creative, organized, and committed to participating in a minimum of 80 percent of meetings and 50 percent of committee events during the year. Committees meet from September through April. Below are some details about each of the five committees. Club Programs Melissa Borders, Vice President Club Programs L T O R : C H R I S T I N A R O A R K A N D M A R Y E L L E N J I L E K Committee members help plan a fun array of WAC events. ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT This committee focuses its planning on arts and amusements, such as Hot Parties at Seattle Glassblowing, Opera Night at Picolinos, and the annual Scavenger Hunt on Lake Union. Meets monthly on Tuesdays, 6–7 pm. FAMILY ACTIVITIES Add your ideas to the successful list of WAC family traditions. Help plan the annual parent-child banquets, holiday shows, and family-focused events. Meets monthly on Wednesdays, 6:30–7:30 pm. CONTACT CLUB PROGRAMS TO APPLY BY JULY 1. Volunteers who apply will be notified of committee assignment or waitlist status in early August. We look forward to hearing from you. Reach us at clubprograms@wac. net or 206.464.3060. 2014–2015 Event-Planning Committees IN THE KNOW Hands-on events and unique topics keep this committee busy. Its calendar of events has included cooking classes, distillery tastings, Back of the WAC tours, and the ever-popular GingerMania. Meets monthly on Tuesdays, 6–7 pm. NORTHWEST DISCOVERY This committee plans everything from tours of the Art Institute and Skagit Valley tulip fields to a night on the Murder Mystery Dinner Train. Meets monthly on Wednesdays, 10–11 am. 20s/30s This core group of members ages 21–39 hosts events for members of all ages, including Tubing & Brews, WAC Link Quarterly, and the Seattle International Comedy Competition.
