14 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | JUNE / JULY 2014 T he Blue Angels are back! Following a one-year hiatus, the Navy's flight demonstration squadron will return to the skies over Seattle this summer as part of the 65th annual Seafair celebration. Our city's most treasured summer tradition, Seafair continues to uphold its mission to connect and celebrate the community spirit of Puget Sound. From June 15 through August 3, Seattle will come alive with Seafair events and community festivals that include fireworks, pirates, uniformed service men and women, athletic pursuits, hydroplanes, parades, and … yes, the beloved roar of the Blue Angels. e WAC will once again host the Blue Angels during their Seattle stay. e squadron will perform during the Boeing Air Show, part of Seafair Weekend, August 1–3. e Patriots Jet Team, which filled in for the Blue Angels last year, will add additional aerial acrobatics to the high- flying weekend. e WAC is also the official athletic club of the Seafair Triathlon, which was recently voted the Northwest's best triathlon. Club members enjoy a discount on entry fees for the sprint-distance event. For more information, email tricycleclub@wac.net. We're also offering a special Inn at the WAC package for triathlon participants. It includes a night at the Inn, a prerace dinner, and discounted parking. Call the Inn at 206.464.3055 and ask for the "Seafair Triathlon" package. And get more details about the triathlon on page 8. New to this year's WAC Seafair festivities, WAC families will have the chance to treat Navy sailors to dinner and sightseeing during Fleet Week. Each sponsoring family and its sailor will attend a welcome reception. Sponsoring families will then have the opportunity to treat the sailor to dinner at Torchy's. WAC members interested in this special opportunity should email membership@wac.net. Whatever your plans this summer, add some Seafair events to your list. Your participation in Seattle's favorite summer festival helps Seafair continue to provide outstanding entertainment to families, visitors, and the community at large. More important, Seafair offers an opportunity to create memories for years to come.
