One of her earliest memories is swimming in the 6th Floor Pool. "I learned to swim at the WAC," Josephine says. "One day I got in the pool, and I could swim all by myself!" She also attends summer camp, where she has visited the Space Needle, gone on a ropes course, and spent the day at T-Mobile Park. She sees the WAC as a place that helps people find what they love. "ere's always something fun to do, and I like the mints in the lobby," she says. Tarek Haidar, 39 Member since 2024 Tarek Haidar joined the WAC in 2024 shortly aer moving to Seattle. As a newcomer, he was looking for a place to work out and grow his social circle. "e WAC allows me to make connections and get to know interesting people," Tarek says. "I've made some great friends here." at includes fellow native French speakers and Wine Club members! Tarek points to the WAC's diversity of offerings as key to the Club's longevity. "I find myself lucky to have found this longstanding community," he says. Carol Slater, 89 Member since 1994 Carol Slater first came to the Club in 1959 as a new college graduate. She had a job at an insurance agency downtown, and a co-worker's parents were members. Carol and husband Charles joined the WAC when they settled back in Washington. "ere was live music many Saturday nights," Carol recalls. "e bar was always open, and we would go and dance and enjoy a drink." Since then, the family has spent holidays at the Club, celebrated grandchildren's college graduations, and stayed during visits from Gig Harbor, where Carol and Charles now reside.
