WINTER / SPRING 2026 23 living fit xxx / xxx living fit instructor insights Instructor Insights With yoga instructor Camille Funk Camille Funk grew up in Washington and started her hot yoga practice in 2012 as a way to warm up—literally! Rainy Pacific Northwest winters can be dreary and dark, leading Camille to complete her instructor training in 2016. Now she brings her exper- tise in Hot Power Vinyasa, Bikram, Hatha, Yin, and pregnancy routines to the WAC. Come join her for rejuvenating morning practice in our new infrared-heated yoga studio on the 4th Floor. Yoga tips and benefits from Camille Stay hydrated: You'll sweat during hot yoga and release toxins. It's important to move mindfully. Drink plenty of water be- fore, after, and during your practice. Heat power: Allow the body to slowly adjust to the heat. The heated room offers you access to more postures with ease. The heat also increases your heart rate while moving at a calmer pace than other cardio workouts. This is ideal for people with past injuries or who are interested in more mind- ful movement. Take a breath: The gentle heat increases lung capacity. So breath work is important. In many of my classes, we practice Ujjayi breath by breathing in and out through the nose and constricting the back of the throat. Think of fogging a window with your breath, but with the mouth closed. Activate: Use your core. In yoga, we talk about Uddiyana Bandha, or abdominal lock. It's done by scooping the lower belly up and in and knitting ribs toward the center of the body. This also helps with breath control. Camille teaches on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday mornings. See Menu > Athletics & Fitness > Classes > on the WAC app for her current schedule.
