Though its origins trace back to another era, its modern voice was given life in Seattle by the late Murray Stenson, whose reverence for balance and history helped shape the Pacific Northwest's cocktail identity. From behind the bar at the Zig Zag Café, Stenson resurrected a forgotten recipe not to reinvent it but to honor it. In many ways, The Last Word mirrors the region that embraced it. Herbal and evergreen, bright yet grounded, it carries the feeling of cool air through cedar and fir, of moss-covered paths and quiet intention. Its structure reflects the Northwest's respect for craft and a belief that ex- cess doesn't yield depth. There is nothing rushed here, nothing wasted—only precision, balance, and care. To sip The Last Word is to participate in a story that values memory as much as innovation. It is a drink that asks you to slow down, listen, and appreciate. Order one at Hagerty's or Torchy's or mix one up a home. RECIPE • 1 oz. Aviation American Gin • 1 oz. green Chartreuse • 1 oz. Luxardo Maraschino liqueur • 1 oz. fresh lime juice Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled martini glass. Then slow down and sip!
