FALL / WINTER 2024 13 first take the main event What do dozens of college boxers, two comedians, and hundreds of well-dressed WAC members have in common? e Main Event, the biggest boxing spectacle in Seattle and one of the most sought- aer fight cards on the national collegiate boxing scene. is two-night affair returns to the 8th Floor gym for its 27th year this coming January 31 and February 1. It's a two-night knockout you won't want to miss! "It's incredible to see how popular this event has become," WAC Chief Operating Officer Wayne Milner says. e pomp and circumstance of the night are some- thing you won't find anywhere else in the Northwest, and it's hard not to liken it to the glory days of boxing. Each night's tickets are sold individ- ually and go on sale November 1. Many WAC members attend both nights. With The Main Event Comedy and collegiate boxing return to the Club in black-tie style a different comedian and a fresh card of fights, it's easy to understand why. e Main Event brings in collegiate boxers from universities across the nation. e University of Washington is almost always represented along with the U.S. military academies and others. Bout cards will be finalized in January. Before boxing comes dinner and comedy in the Crystal Ballroom. is year's comedians are Tom Cotter, the runner-up from season seven of Ameri- ca's Got Talent, and Rodney Laney, who has performed on HBO's Bad Boys of Comedy and CBS's e Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. "e comedy acts really take e Main Event to a new level," Wayne says. "e combination of side-splitting humor with top collegiate boxing is something the WAC does unlike anyone else." Friday & Saturday January 31 & February 1, 2025 Each night starts at 5:30 pm in the Crystal Ballroom. After dinner and comedy, ascend to the 8th Floor, where the gym is transformed into a boxing ring, complete with lighting and a ring announcer. Tickets go on sale on the WAC app starting at 10 am on Friday, November 1. General admission: $225/member; $250/guest VIP seating: $350 Eight-top table: $1,800; 10 tables available. Table reservations include preferred dinner seating and are nonrefundable. Each night ticketed separately. Cancellations by January 17. S T E P H E N B R A S H E A R Comedy and collegiate boxing entertain for two nights at this black-tie event on Friday, January 31, and Saturday, February 1.
