"ey're a hoot," she says. Aer all, when you mix cheerful, energetic, and fun- loving members with a good dose of water, it's hard not to have a good time. "ere's never a dull moment when aquatics classes are in session," Lynn says. While some members enjoy swimming laps in the 83-degree waters of Helene Madison Pool, others prefer the physical and social benefits of aquatic fitness classes. "One of the things aquatics classes at the WAC bring is a sense of fun and socializing," member Ed Ventura says. "It's not just a workout." Ed has enjoyed pool fitness classes since joining the WAC four years ago. What started as a low-impact exercise option quickly proved to have other benefits. "I used to have medications I needed to take," Ed says. "But since I started aquatics, I don't need them." He usually attends three classes a week, oen hanging out for a few minutes aerward for some socializing and in-water fun. Another pool regular is Nancy Pearson. "Her leadership during classes is contagious," Lynn says. A champion curler in her 20s, Nancy took up swimming regularly later in life.
