Freshly picked apples can be enjoyed on their own, and their crisp bite and various flavors oen come from just over the Cascade Mountains. In fact, did you know that Washington state produces more than half of the apples grown in the U.S.? ose multicolored pome fruits are at their peak just off the fall harvest. Apples pair perfectly with savory dishes—especially when reduced to a sauce—and make the perfect accoutrement to autumn-themed salads. Artichokes, meanwhile, offer versatility from appetizer spreads to breakfast scrambles, pasta dishes, or even as the perfect textural and flavor contrast to salads, pizzas, and coleslaws. Squash are oen seen as the poster children of fall, and for good reason. Roast them, mash them, or turn them into noodles.
